Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should debate with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to prove that he is not “psychologically weak”, PKR Youth said today.
The statement came in the wake of Umno Youth’s criticism of one the pro-Bersih hecklers at Najib’s May 14 speech in London, Hiu Woong Sin, who had turned down the wing’s challenge to a debate.
For that, Umno Youth exco member Muhd Khairun Che Aseh slammed Hiu as “psychologically weak” and “lacking in courage” at a press conference today.
“PKR Youth views Muhd Khairun’s statement as an Umno Youth exco member as a veiled message to Umno president Najib to accept the challenge to debate thrown to him by Anwar recently,” its deputy information chief Najwan Halimi said.
Najwan said Najib should display the maturity and authority of a leader, as did PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar in a debate last Tuesday.
The debate on the nation’s higher education policy sparked fresh calls for a debate between Najib and Anwar.
“Therefore, Najib should prove to the people that he is not ‘psychologically weak’ as characterised by Umno Youth towards Hiu for rejecting the challenge to debate,” said Najwan.
